Winter is coming – and with it, the season for all things Christmas. Backyard Cinema made its comeback to Wandsworth last month, transporting explorers to the North of the world to see their favourite films in an environment like no other. With an impressive lineup of Christmas classics and festive favourites on offer, this is a winter activity for all the family.
This isn’t your average trip to the cinema. Meet on the platform, collect your tickets, and travel the carriages of a 1920s inspired steam train to the top of the world. Disembark into a spellbinding space filled with constellations of twinkling stars that will guide you to the Northern lights where you take your cinema seat surrounded by snow topped towering trees. And in true Backyard Cinema style, there will be plenty of surprises!
Snuggle up on Backyard’s signature giant bean bags to watch a new release or cult classic including Top Gun: Maverick, Elvis, Labyrinth, Minions: The Rise of Gru, The Greatest Showman and The Batman.
Of course, they’ll be bringing their annual Christmas cheer with their Xmas season of films including Elf, Home Alone, Love Actually, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Holiday, The Muppet Christmas Carol, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street.
Arrive early or stay late at the new retro cabaret bar inside the enormous circus big top tent where there will be live music and performances. If you're feeling peckish there is a fantastic new food court, home to the legendary Backyard Pizza – with the return of The Holiday and Deck the Halls’ pizzas - and award-winning street food vendor Other Side Fried. You can also indulge in a mug of hot spiced mulled wine and ‘build your own’ boozy hot chocolate, made especially for Backyard Cinema by British chocolatiers, Hotel Chocolat.
What once started as a passion project in its founders’ very own back garden, Backyard Cinema has now grown to be one of the leading alternative cinema experiences in the UK. After nearly a decade of reinventing what it means to watch a movie and having now screened to over half a million customers, the team continues to look for new ways to wow audiences and offer more than just the movies.
Backyard Cinema will be open until 5th January 2022, with prices starting from £10 per child and £20 per adult. You can view the entire schedule of listings, get yourself booked in right here.
