Lush opens shop and spa in Covent Garden

Tucked away among the hustle and bustle of one of Covent Garden’s busiest shopping streets is a brand new Lush shop and spa, offering the brand’s much-loved fresh, handmade cosmetics and 12 different spa treatments.

The 230 sqm space is home to Lush’s signature hair care, skin and body care on the shop floor, including a curated collection of previously discontinued products from the archives loved by the shop team. The brand is returning to the iconic Covent Garden location after 11 years away, after previously operating a shop there from 1998 – 2013.

The first 100 people in line on opening day will receive a free Lush goodie bag worth over £20, containing some of the brand’s best selling products. Customers on opening weekend (16-18th August) will also be able to make their own unique Lush bath bombs for free, as well as receive free hand and arm or scalp and temple massages by Lush Spa therapists.

The perfect way to cool down on a sunny day, the Lush Covent Garden shop will also be hosting Avocado Ice Cream Face Mask making workshops throughout the weekend. Usually a spa exclusive product, this fresh face mask blends real avocados and lemons into one of the freshest cosmetics on the market. The experience will cost £10 per person, and customers will take home their freshly made mask and a free solid facial serum – Full of Grace or Argan.

Nestled below the shop floor is Lush’s ‘best kept secret’ – a Lush Spa comprising three single and one double treatment rooms. Six spa therapists offer treatments including new Scottish-themed hot stone massage The Highlands, hot chocolate-scented full body scrub The Comforter, and face, ear and scalp massage, The Sound Bath.

The Lush Spa concept launched in 2009 and there are 19 Lush spas around the world offering a variety of treatments, from facials and full body massages to immersive bathing experiences, all of which can be customised with different products. Covent Garden will be the second London location for the Lush Spa – joining the spa on Oxford Street, which opened in 2015.

Treatments include Synaesthesia (£160, 80 minutes) – Lush Spa’s signature massage. When creating Synaesthesia, Lush co-founder Mark Constantine wanted to create a treatment that would reinvent massage, playing with all five of the client’s senses to create a certain state of mind within them, which is chosen by them before the treatment begins.

The Highlands (60 minutes, £150) launches exclusively at the brand new Lush Spa Glasgow City and Lush Spa Edinburgh on 1st March 2024, before launching in all Lush Spas nationwide in autumn 2024. This full body hot stone massage features Highlands spring water, stones carved with ancient Scottish symbols and is choreographed to a soundtrack of Gaelic historical folk songs recorded especially for the treatment.

The spa will also be home to Lush’s new Spa Parties (£150pp), a 2.5 – 3 hour experience full of hands-on activities, spa treatments and pampering perfect for wedding parties, baby showers and friends and family get-togethers. Guests make their own fresh face mask, take part in a skincare masterclass, enjoy a Fresh Facial or Tangled Hair and a back massage, a fresh fruit platter and refreshments, and take home a party box full of skincare goodies to continue the relaxation at home.

Sophie Watson, shop and spa manager at Lush Covent Garden, said: “We are beyond excited to make our return to the centre of entertainment and spectacle in London, Covent Garden.

“Our talented team of daymakers are passionate to showcase the incredible services, products and experiences we have to offer. From engaging product demonstrations and exclusives, fresh bouquets to make your day, or transformative spa experiences – we’re ready to bring a little magic and wonder to Covent Garden!”

The Good Hour (£140, 70 minutes) is a highly effective, firm, full body massage and one of the spa’s most popular treatments. The therapist works on the client’s muscles deeply and the pace of the motions of this treatment is akin to ropes being pulled on a ship, so the room is dressed as a ship’s cabin, eerily candle lit with scented sea mist and the sound of a rickety ship upon the waves.

The Sound Bath (£80, 60 minutes) is a blend of massage, music and tuning forks to retune the mind and body using ear candles, and face and scalp massage, while The Spell (£90, 60 minutes) is a grounding reflexology-inspired foot and scalp massage that embraces the ancient art of treating the body through the feet.

Hard Days Night (£120, 75 minutes) is a Beatles-inspired treatment created in Liverpool. Clients enjoy all the benefits of yoga, a full body massage and a good night’s sleep while dressed in a pair of cosy pyjamas.

Karma (£275, 65 minutes) is a four-handed full body massage delivered by two therapists who guide the client through music, movement and meditation. Finished with a mango chai tea.

Shorter treatments are also available, including the rapidly relaxing face and scalp massage Tangled Hair (£45, 25 minutes) created by Lush’s Japan spa team, a rejuvenating Fresh Facial (£50, 30 minutes) and Tailor Made massage (£75, 30 minutes) which relieves muscular tension where it’s needed most.

The spa will sit on the lower floor of the new Lush Covent Garden shop, which is also home to Lush Parties, free skin, makeup and hair care consultations and exclusive products.
