Colonel Saab Brings Elegance and Indian Excellence to Trafalgar Square

Following a hugely successful run in Holborn, Colonel Saab has opened its doors in one of London’s prime hotspots adjacent to Trafalgar Square. The restaurant is already making waves in London’s vibrant culinary scene - restaurateur Roop Partap Choudhary has once again created a space that not only celebrates the richness of Indian cuisine in the most deliciously creative of ways, but also marks the heritage and stories behind it.

Those familiar with Colonel Saab will know that the restaurants’ designs are a tribute to Choudhary’s family’s travels through India, with every corner reflecting a slice of the history. Much like the Holborn restaurant, the Trafalgar Square spot is flooded with chandeliers from Firozabad, striking artwork collected through the family’s travels, and plush bar and lounge areas that provide an atmosphere that feels both regal and welcoming at the same time – a true reflection of the essence of the family itself.

At the heart of Colonel Saab’s offering is its distinctive blend of traditional Indian flavours with modern culinary techniques. The menu strikes a fine balance between classic crowd-pleasers and more inventive, lesser-known dishes. The Kerala Prawn Moilee is done spectacularly, serving up a delightful dish that layers coconut milk and spices with the delicate sweetness of prawns, creating an elevated comforting and aromatic dish that is widely loved. The Shikari Raan, a slow-cooked lamb marinated in rich spices and served in an indulgent sauce, is tender, juicy, and full of flavour - a real menu highlight, and a perfect example of how Colonel Saab excels in bringing traditional dishes to the modern world.

But it’s not just about the well-known dishes. Colonel Saab has perfected a range of lesser-explored culinary gems that truly set it apart. One such dish is the Gutti Vankaya, a take on the Andhra style dish with curry flavoured baby aubergines in a tangy tamarind gravy. Another must-try is Memsaab’s Chicken Curry, Memsaab’s twist on the traditional plate, featuring slow cooked chicken in a light cream sauce and sweet spices that elevate this into a hearty, luxurious meal with the magic touch of Colonel Saab.

What makes Colonel Saab truly stand out, beyond its excellent food, is its ability to create an experience that feels both luxurious and deeply personal. Whether you’re seated in the grand dining room under glittering chandeliers or enjoying a more intimate meal in one of its private dining rooms, the restaurant invites you to savour not just Indian cuisine but Indian heritage itself. Colonel Saab is a place that promises – and delivers – a celebration of India’s culinary artistry, and transports you to a luxurious place afar while still right in the heart of London.

You can find Colonel Saab at 40-42 William IV Street, London WC2N 4DD. Read more about the restaurant and book your table here.
